Vanilla Christmas cookies
Vanilla Christmas cookies
By Tamara Sinterklaas has returned to Spain, and the dark days before Christmas are just around the corner. To make these days cozy we get the Christmas tree into the house, hang the Christmas balls, we decorate the tree with lights and we are going to bake delicious Christmas cookies.
Vanilla Christmas cookies
We are making two different types of Christmas cookies today using the basic vanilla cookie recipe. A simple recipe that you can use more than once. We make round cookies, one we decorate as a snowman and the other as a reindeer.
What do you need?
Recipe for about 20 cookies;
- 225 grams of butter
- 150 grams white caster sugar
- 1 packet of vanilla-flavored sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 280 grams of flour
- Pinch of salt
- Baking tray with baking paper
- Rolling pin
- Round cutter
What do you need to decorate the cookies?
- Dr. oetker cookie icing
- Dr. Oetker red decorating pen or red smarties
- Dr. oetker chocolate markers
- Small piece of orange marzipan
How do you proceed?
We start by baking the Christmas cookies.
Mix the butter, caster sugar and vanilla sugar until creamy. Add the egg yolk and mix well. You add the flour and a pinch of salt. Knead this until it is a firm mass. Shape the dough into a ball and wrap it in cling film.
Put this in the fridge.
After an hour, take the dough out of the fridge. Sprinkle some flour on your counter or place mat and roll it out to the desired thickness of your cookies. Cover the baking tray with baking paper.
Cut out the cookies with a round cutter and place them on the baking tray. Make sure there is enough space between the cookies, they can spread a little. (To prevent your cookies from spreading, add an extra 20 grams of flour to the recipe)
You bake the cookies at 180 degrees for about 15 minutes. When the cookies are ready, let them cool down before decorating them.
Decorate
The reindeer we make as follows. You use the dark color of the chocolate markers for this, which you knead for 1 minute. You press evenly into the tube for the best result. You start with the reindeer's antlers.
Then you make two dots which are the eyes. You can make the nose by putting a little bit of chocolate on the cookie and pressing the red smartie onto it. Or you can make the nose by making a circle with a red decorating pen.
And Rudolph the reindeer is ready!
We are now going to use the other cookies snowman decorate. We cover the entire cookie with cookie icing. Ideal because the packaging includes a nozzle that makes it easy to apply the icing to the cookie. Knead the bag for 1 minute and attach the nozzle to the bag. You first spray a line along the edge and then fill the cookie with the icing.
You smooth the icing by smoothing it all over with a damp brush. You make the mouth with a red decorating marker or with the dark chocolate marker. With a dark chocolate marker you make the eyes and the hat.
Roll some orange marzipan in the shape of a carrot/nose and attach it to the cookie. You can carefully press the dots of the decorating marker and chocolate marker with the brush. When the icing has dried, spray the eyebrows above the eyes with the icing.
And that's how your snowman cookie is ready.
Are you ready for Christmas cookies yet? I am curious about your creations.
